Chocolate Cheerios
I know what you're thinking, "geesh, General Mills is making another variety of Cheerios? Why mess with a classic like Cheerios?" True, you'd be justified in scoffing at another Cheerios flavor. Currently there are ten-yes TEN types of Cheerios on the market. (That's not counting varieties that have come and gone).

The new Chocolate Cheerios makes it 11 varieties. Talk about market saturation. Still, I think that Chocolate Cheerios is a variety they should have done years ago and it's a worthwhile addition to the Cheerios family.
First of all, I must start this review with a confession that I am in fact...a chocoholic. So I am more prone to like anything as long as it's chocolate flavored, dipped in chocolate, includes cocoa or in anyway has chocolate associated with it. Still I think as a connoisseur of chocolate related food stuffs I am expertly qualified to offer some useful insights.
The first thing you gotta know about Chocolate Cheerios is that they are made with "real cocoa!" This is underlined and in bold on the front of the box. They really want you to know that there's no imitation "cocoa-like product" in these Os. Only the real stuff.

They also claim in a big red heart graphic that Chocolate Cheerios "may reduce the risk of heart disease." Cheerios has had this gimmick for some time now. If this cereal isn't lowering cholesterol then it's reducing heart disease. What's next making you look younger? Oh well, food companies just love tacking on added value and potential health benefits supported by their own lab testing. It does have whole grain in it. But something tells me whole grain that's ground up, mixed with sugar and covered in chocolate ain't exactly health food.

Here is what Chocolate Cheerios look like. Pretty much no surprises here. They do tend to have varying shades of chocolate coloring on them. I'm not sure if that's intentional or just a result of random processing. I'd like to think it's a symbol of our own ethnic diversity.

When you leave them in milk for awhile you'd expect that the milk would change color like in a bowl of Kellogg's Cocoa Krispies or Post's Cocoa Pebbles. But nah, these chocolate covered cereal bits do not seem to have the same chocolatizing affect on milk as their similar peers. The milk only slightly changed color and didn't get that super sugary chocolate flavor that is left after emptying a bowl of say Cocoa Krispies. (they also don't snap, crackle and pop. But they never claimed to have that unique power anyway).
For the taste test I could try them myself. But as I said I'm a registered chocoholic in three states. So whom shall I get to taste test this latest variety of Cheerios cereal? Hmm, I know "let's get Mikey to try it. He hates everything." That is, except for pizza.

"He like's it! Hey Mikey!"
Well I guess our verdict is in - Chocolate Cheerios for the win! Hey that rhymes.
Try some Chocolate Cheerios for yourself and let me know what you think.
