What are Jaffa Cakes Part 2
If you missed Part 1
After a feverish search I was able to hit pay dirt.
My quest didn't take me to far, just to the Dominick's grocery store right next to my apartment. I did not find official McVities brand Jaffa Cakes. I did find some close approximations though.

As you can see above, I had Jaffa-like cakes right under my very nose. I unwittingly passed these by countless times as I instead reached for a bag of Oreos with double stuffed chocolate filling (those rock!). Anyway, here they: two varieties of Jaffa Cakes. The first is called Pim's Orange by the LU brand of Belgium. The second is called Delicje Szampanskie made by the E. Wedel company of Poland. With salivating anticipation I sampled each of the two kinds.

I tried the Pim's first and I think it is my favorite of the two. The cake was softer and I was surprised that the chocolate on top was kind of crisp. I was expecting softer, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate. But I liked the crunchy chocolate texture next to the soft cake and creamy orange center. Also, looking at it as a graphic designer the package of the Pim's cakes I feel is much cooler. It screams sophistication. It's the brand I will nibble on with my cup of Earl Gray from now on.

As far as the Delicje kind goes I think they are equally as yumifying. But, the Delicje's cake was more chewy than the Pim's. Also, the orange center of the Delicje kind was more rubbery like a soft gummy bear. Overall this kind was good but if I have the choice between them I'm nabbing the Pim's. On a side note, I found it interesting how the Pim's imprint their logo on the chocolate side while the Delicje's logo is on the cake side. I'm sure many a heated corporate meeting was called for to decide which side it should go on. Maybe to decide they flipped one of the cakes like a coin and whichever side landed face up got the stamp. I tried that but just ended up with cake crumbs all over my kitchen floor.
Thus, my need for instant gratification (and chocolate) was satisfied...for now. I still haven't sampled genuine McVitie's brand Jaffa Cakes. So I can't fully rest yet. Just as Guinan explained to Picard after their initial encounter with the Borg: "Now that I know of their existance...I will be coming. You can bet on it!"
